Sansevieria is an excellent house plant for beginners and for people who travel a lot, or for people who are too busy taking care of the kids and do  not have time to take care of a plant every day.  I could keep going, but I think you got the idea.  The Sansevieria is a great plant for the low light and high traffic areas, weather it be on the floor or used as a table top display.

Sansevieria are sometimes compared to a cactus when talking about water.  Let the soil dry out completely between waterings.  During the winter reduce watering to monthly.  Over watering a Sanserviera will produce slimy, droopy leaves.  If your free plant needs more water the leaves will lean to one side and become wrinkled.  With this plant it is always better to under water than over water if you are unsure.  Pruning in not necessary with the Sansevieria, if the leaves fall over cut them off at the soil level, don not try to push them back up.

Plant your Sansevieria in well drained soil and you can fertilize them during the growing season, do not fertilize in the winter.  Once your Sansevieria starts to grow you may have to add soil to help support the plant.  You also may have to repot the plant if it grows too big for the container, but it will hold up just fine.

Mature leaves are between 2.5 and 3 feet in length and about two inches in width.  They are dark green with a light green strip going through them.  The sap from these leaves has an antiseptic and the leaves are sometimes used for bandages.
